Bio
It is not too difficult to accept that Toronto-born Jardine who resides in lower mainland Vancouver has been recording since 1995 and that this upcoming project will be her 5th cd in her body of work. With that experience is a vocal confidence and caressing lyric interpretation of that of a veteran.
Head Traffic, the most current chapter in Cherelle’s recording library, is an eclectic roller coaster ride of emotions and genres. Up tempo rockers, balanced with some beautiful ballads taking the listener through country rock, adult contemporary, retro rock and roots-all in a slinky well produced package. Head Traffic was recorded in part in Toronto at “The Woodshed” Blue Rodeo’s studio. Members of the band laid tracks for 2 of the songs on the cd “Nothing left to say” and “Maybe Tonight”. The rest of the project was finished in Vancouver and Produced by Ray Roper and David Wills of Stonebolt fame. Musicians on the project include BR members Bob Egan, Bazil Donovan, and also musicians Charlie Hase, Jerry Adolphe, Karl Watts, Louis Nitikman, Peter Von Allen and James Gray. Head Traffic garnered great reviews. “Jardine’s voice embraces each melody like angel kisses unfolding a revelation” Bryan Baker “Cherelle has found herself a niche in the ranks of Canada’s pop music scene” RPM “Confident is an iffy world, Cherelle sings like some people pray” The Nexus
Jardine has been on both sides of the industry, as President of Pacific Songwriter’s Association as well as groups such as Pacific Alliance of Independent Recording Artists, (which she co-founded) Women in Music and Salmon City Music. Cherelle is the Producer of the popular music series based in Richmond BC-Musical Expressions. Now in its 6th year, M.E. allows Cherelle to bring in an amazing array of recording artists, such as Bob Egan (Blue Rodeo), John Mann (Spirit of the West), Rumbacalzada, Bob Kemmis, Gaye Delorme, Dustin Bentall and a host of others to her home town community-spreading the joy of music .
In 2009, Jardine released her video for “Nothing Left to Say”,(Head Traffic) This song was filmed in Vancouver’s darkest streets of the East end, telling the tale of a teen living on the streets.. The release party was a fundraiser for the Kids Help Phone. Cherelle also released her next video, filmed in Los Angeles “Hollywood”. Both videos can be found on her website.
For her community work, Jardine has been nominated 3 times for an Ethel Tibbits award , was nominated for a Richmond Arts award and in December 09 will receive an Inspirational Richmond Womens award. Community is important to Cherelle, she donates much of her time to countless charity organizations, as a performer and organizer.
Cherelle has released 4 cds from 1998 to 2006 and now is poised to release a new project. The Jardines is an alt country roots band, with a new cd that will be released February 12th 2010 4:30 pm on the Olympic Main stage in Minoru Park, Richmond BC
The Jardines is Cherelle Jardine and her daughter AJ Bureyko, plus a talented band featuring local musician Ricky Francisco as well as Marc Gladstone, Michael Flunkhert, Scott Pauley, Kirk Douglas and Doug Liddle. The Jardines don’t mind having the words Alt Country tagged to their music, even if that is a buzz word right now, because The Jardines themselves have a buzz around them with the anticipation of their new self titled album.
The idea of having a new mother daughter group in the current alt country music scene is really exciting. There hasn’t been a mother daughter success story since The Judds and The Jardines have a pretty good chance of following suit. The Cherelle, AJ combination is a delicious mixture of street smarts and innocence. Their life experiences are meshed together, giving the listener an ageless body of work to fall in love with.
Cherelle and AJ are recording at the Sound Lounge with sought after Vancouver Producer Kirk Douglas.
